Bad News

I’m seeding this so that I can make people aware of various forms of Franken-science now in the works. Hopefully it leads to a way for us to survive off-world rather than ruin this world. Let me just say I think off-world terraforming technology is important for our REAL future, that is if we are to have one at all.

Still, I do love these kinds of ideas in that they are entertaining thought experiments — I mean the bit about Geo-engineering and our ever increasing dependence on technology — yes, I find those things entertaining. As well as I do this idea of man’s inability to see his own evolution happening all around him/her.

You see, all of these things play perfectly into the plot of some of the novels I’ve been working on (mostly a novel entitled “Tether”). Now though, these stories seem to have a lot less of a basis in fiction, and more of a basis in reality — I guess its fate that this collection of novels was entitled “The Truth.” Or… that that title is so broad, overreaching, and such a philosophically powerful notion, that it meets a lot of needs. :)

Beyond feeling like I should point all that out, I’d like to use this opportunity to state how awfully dissatisfied I am with scientific community on this topic of global warming. They [the involved scientists (all of them)] have done, in my humble opinion, a very poor job of expressly distributing the facts as they have presented themselves over time. And whats more, they [scientists] have done a poor job of implementing any new procedures that are more ecologically sound. I bring this up because its one of the few areas where SCIENCE isn’t practicing what… it — forgive the usage — preaches.

All of this inability to act on the part of the scientific community in general is very likely causing all the works derived of these sciences to inherently lack new ecologically sound implementations at their heart. Science is simply lacking the consideration of these (its own) observations about the planet. Moreover, Science likely lacks the motivating forces (from within) which would lead to the implementation of new and more ecologically sound procedures in the future. What I mean is: Science is not being considerate of its own observations. So, nothing is forcing the hand of change.

I liken all of this to the American Stock Market in some respects, which today still runs mostly on hardware from the 70s at the various exchanges, creating a wonderful bouquet of various problems today. The reason things are this way is because these “scientists” (computer scientists in this case) could not accurately make a case enough in defense of the offerings of current technology. This failure resulted in the expertise of business management seeming to out-weigh the expertise of its technical proponents. In the end, no weight was given to the technical assessment and things went forward.

The reality is, while the market still runs on this old hardware, bad things can happen. A good example occurred just recently, when switching over to a backup system caused the DOW Industrial to drop 200 points in the course of a couple hours trading.

Do you want to find out what happens when we tinker with our natural surroundings, and leave the big management decisions to people who worry about cost synergies? I don’t. I love business, but, not that much.

The real fact is, now, Science (yes with a capital S) is doing little more than Chicken Little at this point, shouting “The Sky is Falling”. But, lets keep in mind, in this case, Chicken Little/Science only needs to be right about this kind of thing once — This implies that I think we (as a people) take science for granted and listen perhaps only slightly more than we would Chicken Little regardless of the message — and that implication of my opinion would be true. Science needs to look at the problem and reveal to us the nature of our role. And then, we, the people, need to address the problem in how we live our lives. Because we have seen how leaving these matters strictly to supporting technology results. Simply put: It is killing our planet…

“Now, is the sunlit hour of our over heating. And as we come slowly to our final boil together, here on the planet Soup, we, forgetting all of inadvertent attempts to kill ourselves, now get to wander together, through the creation of the abhorrences that will slowly (and perhaps nearly intentionally) wipe us from the map in the days to come. Lets hear three cheers for our worst idea yet: Geo-engineering!
